Vernaccia di San Gimignano visiting Zurich and Munich
Germany and Switzerland are the first and second European markets of Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
To keep this link solid, the Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano organises numerous tastings in both countries every year to meet operators and, above all, consumers, and present the latest vintages to be released for sale: 2015 is a really great vintage for Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
At the beginning of May, Zurich and Munich will be hosting two events with the same format: an introductory seminar held by Christian Eder, editor in chief for Italy for the magazine Vinum, in which he will be presenting the territory and the grape variety Vernaccia di San Gimignano in the year of the appellation’s fiftieth anniversary, followed by tastings at the tables of the producers present, initially reserved for operators only and open to the public in the evening.
In Zurich, on the 2nd of May, the tasting will take place at the prestigious Restaurant Metropole, and at the Tresor Vinum Wine store in Munich.
In 2015, Germany absorbed almost 10% of the production of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, i.e. about 5.5 million bottles, confirming its position as the second market in the world after the USA, to which 16.3% of the wine bottled is destined.
Exports to the Swiss market, on the other hand, account for 4%, a figure which has grown slightly and constantly compared to the last few years.
