The Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano confirms Letizia Cesani as chairman and Ivaldo Volpini as deputy chairman for a third term
During its first session, the new Board of Directors of the Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano, elected by the general meeting held on the 26th of June, reappointed Letizia Cesani as chairman. This is her third mandate, alongside Ivaldo Volpini, whose role as Deputy Chairman has also been confirmed.
“This confirmation of the chair of our Consortium is an honour. I see it as an acknowledgement of the work carried out during the last two mandates” says Letizia Cesani “The start of this new three-year term coincides with an important recurrence, the fiftieth anniversary of the doc acknowledgement of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the first wine in Italy to be awarded the appellation in 1966.
Not only will 2016 be a year dedicated to celebrations, it will also be a summary of these first 50 years of the appellation and, we hope, the starting point for fifty more years full of satisfaction and growth for the whole appellation: this is the aim towards which we are working.
We have dedicated the last six years to relaunching Vernaccia di San Gimignano through a better and more targeted communication and greater efficiency, guiding the appellation towards a Renaissance which we have proven is possible; we have created the necessary conditions to achieve a tangible development policy. So, again, the keyword for the next three years will be growth considered in the global sense, of the appellation and quality of the wines, of the awareness by the producers of the potential of the territory and the grape variety, of the professional capacity of everyone through adequate training; we want growth to be translated into a strengthening of Vernaccia di San Gimignano on the national and international markets, into an acknowledgement of its qualities and also a recognition of its economic value.
The Consortium, together with its producers, is aware that it is in the front line when it comes to tackling the global challenges that await it, challenges which are only played in a minimal part at home, as the playing field is the world and the rules are dictated by the European Community. It is with this awareness that we are ready to consolidate those extraordinary values that our community has been expressing through its wines for centuries.”
The Board of Directors of the Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano is made up of thirteen members and remains in office for three years. The election held in the general meeting on the 26th of June confirmed eleven of the previous directors and elected two new members.
