Wine&Siena. Vernaccia di San Gimignano? Here! On Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of January, the Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano will be taking part, with a selection of ten estates, in the first edition of Wine&Siena

In the year of the fiftieth anniversary of recognition of the denomination of origin of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano couldn’t miss out on this fabulous opportunity to meet the general public of wine enthusiasts.
Because that’s exactly what Wine&Siena is: in the city that represents the heart of a territory with a long-standing tradition for the production of excellent wines, with five of the world’s most famous DOCG wines, the event promoted by Siena’s Confcommercio organisation and conceived by Helmut Kocher, President of Gourmet's International and the brains behind the Merano Wine Festival, will be an opportunity for consumers to meet the producers of the wines that best represent the region and Italy.
Siena like Bordeaux: the Tuscan city has everything it takes to become the national reference for Italy’s greatest wine region, just like Bordeaux for France. Up until now, there has been a lack of an event that allowed it to play its natural role, but Wine&Siena is about to change things.
The Consorzio di Tutela della Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the first Italian wine to be assigned DOC recognition in 1966, couldn’t miss out on this great opportunity, and will be present with a stand at the Grand Hotel Continental, where the wines of the ten estates selected to represent the entire denomination will be presented for tasting: Ca’ del Vispo, Fattoria Abbazia di Monteoliveto, Fattoria di Pancole, Il Lebbio, Il Palagione, La Lastra, Panizzi, Rampa di Fugnano, San Donato and Tenuta la Vigna.
Participation in Wine&Siena opens a very busy month for Tuscan wine. The 12th and 13th of February will be occupied by Buy Wine, organised by Toscana Promozione, involving two hundred Tuscan estates who will be meeting two hundred and forty international buyers. Then, immediately afterwards comes the week of Anteprime Toscane (Tuscan Previews), bringing hundreds of Italian and international journalists to the area: the 2016 Preview of Vernaccia di San Gimignano will be held on Sunday 14th and Wednesday 17th of February.
